畳は、表と裏の両面を使用できます。
畳表※1がイ草の場合は表側に比べて、裏側の方が光を受ける量が少ない分、褪色が遅くなります。
そこでまだ裏側がきれいなうちに裏返しをすれば一枚の畳表をきれいに長く清潔にご使用いただけます。
和紙や樹脂の畳表の場合は、イ草と比べて褪色がほとんどございません。
※1 畳表とは畳の表面の部分で、従来はイ草ですが、最近は和紙や樹脂の畳表もございます。
Tatami coverings can be used on both sides.
When made from natural igusa rush grass, the underside of the covering is exposed to less light and therefore fades more slowly than the upper surface.
By reversing the covering while the underside is still in good condition, you can extend its lifespan and keep your tatami looking fresh and clean.
Tatami coverings made from Japanese paper or synthetic resin, on the other hand, are highly resistant to fading compared with natural rush grass.
Note: The tatami covering is the woven surface layer of a tatami mat. Traditionally made from igusa rush grass, modern coverings are also available in Japanese paper and synthetic resin.
